Penobscot Bay Expedition
Leaving from Deer Isle we will island hop through Penobscot Bay which is Maine's largest bay. There are several directions the trip can head even making our way down to islands around Vinalhaven in the mouth of Penobscot Bay. This geologically diverse bay teams with wildlife and has a multitude of island campsites that are made available either through the Maine Coast Heritage Trust of the Maine Island Trail. weather for a night or multiple nights exploring Penobscot Bay will be an adventure you won't soon forget. We will work with you to plan a trip that will suit your expectations.
These Google Earth images show one possible 3-day expedition in Penobscot Bay. The first image is an overview of all 3-days. This would be a base camp style trip where at the end of day one a camp would be established. The next day would consist of touring the islands that our campsite makes accessible and returning to camp. There are many options in Penobscot Bay including the possibility of reaching Vinalhaven which guards the mouth of the bay. Options of expeditions with moving camps and possible crossing of the bay are also available. The exact course and destinations are made at the time of the trip are subject to weather, and group abilities.
